Yes, cities need community gardens.
there are many valuable life lessons that can be absorbed from
watching things grow and with the knowledge of where food comes from.
I live on an organic farm in upstate New York,
and do you know, some of the best farm workers that we have had
come from the city and truly seem to appreciate
what we are all trying to preserve.
They don't take it for granted.
There should be more agricultural opportunities for urban people,
and the community gardens are valuable.

-------

Yes, I do believe that communities need gardens.
The reason is that I feel that people should be able see
and experience the joys of having gardens and flowers.
Some people don't have the space or resources to have their own gardens.
I think that a community garden allows everyone to experience it,
and it gives everyone in the community the chance
to help take part in keeping it up.
I think that a community garden in my community
would help bring people together!
Sincerely,
Nena M

I think that the city is making a big mistake.
Why can't there be a little greenery in a concrete city.

Yes. In the technological world we live in it
would be nice if we could blend both in.
Also what do we want to see when we take a walk,
a garden or some store.

ABSOLUTELY!

-------

Yes, we need them desperately,
along with any other signs of life on this planet!!

Yeah, cities need communitiy gardens...it's really obvious.
Here in Vienna there are lots of them and it helps to relax the atmosphere..
The pictures combined with the sound of the demonstration for the public
gardens was fine (almost like being there :-) )

I just obtained a plot in a community garden in Baltimore, Maryland. I don't know why I waited! Not only to I benefit from the tasty goodies from my harvest but the community in the garden is so warm and caring. The community garden concept brings together people from all walks of life, where otherwise they would probably never meet. We aren't just sharing space. We are sharing ideas, growing tips, harvests, and friendship. The men and women of my garden have taught me so much about gardening and myself. Community gardens are essential to understanding and communicating with our neighbors.

Hell yes cities need gardens, in addition to social services, bike trails, and way less cars.
I'm an animal rights actvist and was wondering if anyone could help me:
I need info on technical aspects of civil disobedience - sleeping dragons, black bears (what the heck is that?), and so forth. Could someone send filez, links, or words about them?
Thank you.

yo, my school is doing a project on community gardens and we got one and what we are going to do is make it the best community garden for eveyone and if that fucken mayor plans to destroy it im going to kick his fucken ass. He is not being reasonable to the people in New York and he is greedy and he is a big fat fucken ass wipe that cant control a city, because he makes stupid decision that the people of the big apple dont agree, so i think guliani should retire of being a mayor and go collect cans for money. i am living in the middle of a city in my caravan on site and its so depressing. the goverments push the poor into these situations so they feel more worse off than they are no jobs no motivation a community garden will give so many people the confidance and strength and show them that they have so much more to give than the goverments or sociaty thinks they have . we need to rise above this and do it by our selves because nobody else is.......power to all those beautiful people out there ...bugbeasty@hotmail.com

Normally I would object to razing any greenspace, however, after seeing the shabbiness of said "gardens," I say, Bulldoze 'em! Besides, we need more housing in NYC! Down with stinky composting, up with good housing!

-------

Yes! We should have less gardes, and replace them with condos. I think the majority of these gardens look crap anyway. Raze 'em!

-------

Yes, they most definately do. Studies show that access to nature is essential for peace of mind. They will help build communities and thus, in turn, make crime decrease.

-------

YES, without question. Growing plants sustain life on our planet. Cities and the people that inhabit them our only a small part of the Earth, and we need to be reminded of that. Community gardens are an opportunity for people to work together, create beauty, and profit from their work.

-------

No, cities don't need cute little community gardens. It's a nice idea and all, but I think NY should focus on HUUUUUGE building projects that shamelessly boast of America's lust for money and power. Tiny, struggling gardens blooming with hope and promise just won't attract MASSES of people, they are hard to target, and the whole 'communitygarden' idea makes me have feelings in my heart and stuff.---

born and raised with red, white, & the blues, T.L.C.rawford offers you a sarcastic view thru the eyes of a HOMICIDE bomber-dude. Guliani, chew on concrete. Keep yer paws off of our beets. George W Bush, pour yo'self some nuclear refuse. We've all laboured the earth, go enjoy your fruits.

-------

yes! this is a great idea! why don't they do this in LA! arg ,they think palm trees are satisfactory. I can't even see them thru the smog anyways!
