Though it
is hard to tell in this f i s h e
y e video pan,
Debbi Sutton's incredible ice sculpture was just over our heads.
I was a bit skeptical about this from the
beginning.
Having big chunks of melting ice
suspended over my instruments and the Museum's expensive
microphones,
in what looked like flimsy pine frames stretched with clear vinyl film
did not seem like a good idea to me.
I also was concerned that it would restrict
the performers overhead movements.
I was wrong on both counts.
It was a beautiful piece that created fascinating liquid lenses
in the stretched concavity of the vinyl and not a drop of ice water
fell on my instruments.
This is
looking up into the sculpture.
There is a rose floating in the water.
