It is thought that creates all duality:
'mind' and 'object',
'right' and 'wrong',
'good' and 'evil'.
It is wisdom that perceives them as non-dual.
'Meditiation' means understanding that
there is nothing to enter into,
there is nothing to exit from.
Not grasping at appearences is the state of
self-liberation.
try it...whatcha' gotta loose?

hiking through the sierras is a better form of meditation for me personally because it gives me a chance to see new things, and bond with Mama and move at my own pace and BE.....with out a scary woman all in red reprogramming me.

but seriously, mister mann, I sense that this journey remains unfinished, that perhaps this is only the first episode in a series of spiritual searches... I look forward.

I wonder as you do about the "preaching" side of yoga ... it seems to me the way to go is to practice the asanas as often as possible, and the rest will come when one is ready. In The Brothers Karamazov, Alyosha was following a spiritual life in a monastery, when Father Zosima sent him out into the world, where he felt Alyosha could do more good. One does not have to live forever in an ashram, seemingly isolated from the world; but one can learn to achieve stillness of thought, and in the stillness, have clarity.

I will try to explain it as I see you don't quite get it. Please don't think that this is arrogant of me. In yoga one discovers thru the body, the mind. When one looks deeply within, it becomes apparent that there is really nothing there, only awareness. The whole sensibility of the self is found to be incorrect. The "I" that you think you are, is found to be superficial. The awareness is not bound by time or space, is not attached to anything. It is non-action. This doesn't mean you do nothing from now on. It means you realize that you are not attached to the actions you take. The awareness is also the "nothingness" they speak of. It is the silence that underlies all the noise of the world. We all share this awareness. Or it is all the same thing. Or it a unity. It is analogous to God. But we are not God, we did not create the Universe. But as God is everything, we cannot be separate from God either. This realization can have freeing affect. Now the only your consideration for others and yourself is all that need constrain you. The love in your heart need no longer to be hidden from you. Compassion will naturally gush forth. Joy can bubble up into your awakening, as you have begun your unattachment to the mundane world. This is just my opinion, what I think is true. Do you?

Great explanation of Advaita Vedanta, non-duality. I'd love to hear more from the person who wrote the last entry.
