The String Bands

The above photo is from the
The Hegeman String Band site.
It is their 1984 theme -
"Dante's Dancing Inferno"
(It took 11th Prize)

There must have been
heavy competition
if this amazing display
had ten better than it.

"The String Band division is regarded
by many parade watchers as the most
exciting part of the day.
One element that makes the String Bands unique
is the combination of instruments present.
There are the strings
- banjo, violins & string bass but there are also
accordions, drums, glockenspiel
and many saxophones-
alto, tenor, baritone and bass.

The bands compete
for prizes based on how well each portrays its
selected theme through the categories of music,
presentation and costume."
