You can see the "protective" foil draped over cruz in this picture.
Some rudimentary precautions were taken, such as
wetting downthe roof prior to the party
and they had a couple of small fire extinguishers
and some gallon jugs of water on hand.
But the only exits from the roof were kind of dicey.
We came up to the floor below the roof of this
waterfront loft building in a creaky freight elevator.
The stairs to the roof were makshift, extremely narrow and rail-less.
The only other exit was an iron ladder down a fire escape,
but it was behind the fireworks,
the most likely place for a fire to start.
