Wrybread Live From Burningman 99

We stumbled on a makeshift installation Red had made after The Burn at sunrise. It's in the middle of the open playa, near where The Man lay in ashes.

wow red you are so talented, i love that piece. especially the little backwarsd letters, i saw those but didn't know what they were, the only letters i remembered seeing anywhere else were the underpants letters. i really really love this piece you're so talented, me want one - wacqui

Space lounge people were carrying the letters from thier camp around the playa on poles. I watched them in front of Megavolt, making anagrams with the letters. Fun.

There was a fantastic vibe after The Burn. The whole open playa was strewn with random fires and clusters of people, and there were a few raves including the humungous "Community Rave" in the center of the playa. What struck me as I walked around late night was that everyone seemed genuinely adapted to this city, now using it not as tourists but as founding residents, completely at home. If this event were in a more temperate environment I bet this city could exist year round. That's the next step, I suppose. I've heard it referred to as "the graduation from Burning Man".

We are all tourists. For BM to exist at all requires a vast substructure which is rooted in the capitalist/industirial/consumerist conglomerate even as it stands apart from it. For such a phenomena to exist year round more than just the temperature and enviornment would have to change...we might have to surrender our (gasp) personal agendas, credit cards,automobiles and computers!!!KMK
