As we got higher and were funneled into a ravine, I was happy to see lots of fresh footprints. I'd earlier been to a Rainbow Gathering where it boggled me that even though we were at the base of a gorgeous mountain basin, no one seemed to give a shit about hiking away from their bongs and campfires. It was nice to be among active people again.

And then we finally reached the top, gorgeous view of Black Rock City below. The rumor mill in BRC is good for entertainment and nothing more, but someone said we were the fifth biggest city in Nevada. As Jack put it, the city is large enough that people don't necessarily say hi when passing each other on the street. Want to see a panoramic view?

Here's an intereseting one: as we were descending we heard and felt a deep boom followed by a rising cloud of black smoke. Turns out someone exploded a propane bomb right in the middle of a Black Rock City, leaving a crater and the whole bit. The next day a $3500 reward was posted in the Block Rock Gazette for info about it. Yikes. (Click the pic to enlarge).

When we arrived on Wednesday morning our group had parked directly next to the loudest group of the LOUD side. It was so-o loud we didn't even know the bomb exploded. Next year -- the quiet side for us.
