The dried lake bed--is that what you mean by a playa? How big is the Playa, and how fast can you drive. There were vehicles like this in corny but picturesque movies called Road Warrior or something--Mad Max was one of them--also Thunderdrome.

The Buffalo is a car with the top cut off and metal rebar welded on top in the shape of a buffalo. It also shoots flames from the front. During non-bm times, the car can be sent out on the playa without a driver for "Buffalo hunts" The Playa is the dried lake bed and it is vast (+50 miles long)
